This is the last Will and Testament of me James Fiddaman of Kings Lynn in the
County of Norfolk Hotel Keeper I appoint my Friends Charles Theophilus Ives of
Kings Lynn in the County of Norfolk Solicitors Clerk and Arthur Graham Dow of
the same place Manager to the Kings Lynn Gas Company Executors and Trustees of
this my Will who and the survivor of them and the heirs executors or
administrators of such survivor are hereinafter intended to be included in the
description of my said Trustees I give and bequeath to my friend Joseph Feast
of Walsoken my Gold Watch with its Guard and appendages also my old Guinea. To
my friend Charles Henry Jackson Gamekeeper to His Royal Highness the Prince of
Wales my set of American Coin Solitaires and also my Spring Scarf Ring set in
Stones. To my friend Charles Penny Gardener to His Royal Highness the Prince
of Wales my small Diamond Ring in black setting and also my chased Gold Scarf
Ring To the said Arthur Graham Dow my large three Stone Diamond Ring To the
said Charles Theophilus Ives my Indian Coin or Medal with the two Gold Links
attached to it and also my Gold Horseshoe Pin set with five Diamonds. To my
friend James Wenn my solid Gold Ring with my Monogram engraved thereon To my
friend Joseph Prince in the service of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales
my Gold Ring with my initials engraved thereon in stone setting To my friend
James Bowker Esquire of Kings Lynn my small Ring set with four Pearls and four
other Stones. To my friend William Pattrick Esquire of Hunstanton my plain
twisted Gold Pin and also my chased gold scarf ring. To my friend Merrick
Bircham of Choseley my Gold Pin set with a single Pearl To George Ware now
Superintendent of Police at Kings Lynn my Gold Cameo Ring presented to me in
the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy two. I give and bequeath unto
my Wife Jemima Fiddaman such of the furniture in my dwellinghouse to the value
of Two hundred pounds as she may select and which shall be valued to her at the
time of her selection by some Licensed Auctioneer and appraiser to be appointed
by my said Trustees and approved of by my said Wife I also give and bequeath
to my said Wife any two Timepieces upon my premises that she may make choice of
Also the Silver Salver recently presented to me Also all my other articles of
Jewelry not hereby bequeathed And also a Legacy of Five hundred pounds which
sum I direct my Trustees to pay to her my said Wife as soon as possible after
my decease I give and bequeath to each of my Executors the said Charles
Theophilus Ives and Arthur Graham Dow the sum of one hundred pounds for the
trouble they will have in the execution of the trusts of this my Will To each
of my God children Joseph Prince the Younger and Wessey Goodwin of Newmarket
the sum of One hundred pounds. To each of my God children Bertie Murrell of
Kings Lynn Charles Fiddaman Boon of Tottenhill and Thomas Fiddaman Blomfield of
Kings Lynn the sum of Fifty pounds. To my Sister Ann the Widow of George Flegg
now living in the City of Oxford the sum of Fifty pounds. To Elizabeth the
Wife of the said James Wenn the sum of Fifty pounds. To my Barmaid Elizabeth
Hollingsworth the sum of Fifty pounds. To the Widow of Thomas
Shepherd the sum of Fifty pounds but if she be not living at my decease then I
direct that the said sum of Fifty pounds hereby bequeathed to her shall be
equally divided between such of her Grandchildren the children of Thomas
Shepherd the younger deceased who was formerly a Station Master in the employ
of the Great Eastern Railway Company as shall be living at my decease To my
Brother Francis Fiddaman of Fakenham the sum of Fifty pounds. To Elizabeth
Mary Ives and Margaret Lowden Ives the daughters of the said Charles Theophilus
Ives the sum of Twenty five pounds each. To my friend Edward Alfred Jarvis of
Middleton Towers the sum of Twenty Guineas. To my friend Mrs Prince Wife of
the said Joseph Prince the sum of Twenty Guineas and to the said Joseph Prince
the sum of Ten Guineas. To my friend William Chapman of Grimston who has for
many years been Chairman at my Market Dinner the sum of Ten Guineas. To my
friend George Brereton the younger the sum of Ten Guineas. To the said Merrick
Bircham the sum of Ten Guineas. To my friend James Bacon of Attleborough the
sum of Ten Guineas. To my friend and neighbour Henry Wells of Kings Lynn the
sum of Ten Guineas. To my friend Andrew Barley the sum of Ten Guineas. To
James Kenney of Downham Market the sum of Five Guineas. To Mrs Lowe Wife of
John Joseph Lowe of Kings Lynn the sum of Five Guineas. To her daughter
Harriet Lowe the sum of Five Guineas. To Henry Dugmore Junior of Beachamwell
the sum of Five Guineas. To Mrs Carlton of Massingham Carrier the sum of Five
Guineas. To Mrs Rasberry of Gayton Carrier the sum of Five Guineas and to Mrs
Burrell Widow of Alderson Burrell the sum of Five Guineas. To Frank Bacon and
Horace Bacon Sons of the said James Bacon the sum of Five Guineas each To
George Webster and William Sparkes both on the staff of the "Lynn Advertiser"
the sum of Five Guineas each. To my servant James Cozens the sum of Forty
pounds. To my Clerk Frederick Whin Dawson the sum of Twenty five pounds. To
my Barmaid Keeble the sum of Fifteen pounds. To my Barmaid Rose
Hollingsworth the sum of Ten pounds provided the four last named persons shall
be respectively in my service at the time of my decease. To my old Servants
Mrs Barker Mrs Cozens and Mrs Johnson the sum of Ten pounds each And to such
other of my servants both male and female as shall have been in my constant
employ for the space of three years prior to my decease the sum of Five pounds
each. I give and bequeath the sum of Twenty shillings to each of the Inmates
of every Almshouse in Kings Lynn and Gaywood as shall be resident therein at my
decease I give and bequeath to the Treasurer for the time being of the West
Norfolk and Lynn Hospital the sum of Two hundred pounds to be appropriated by
him towards the funds of that institution and I direct my said Trustees to pay
such Legacy to the said Treasurer and of such part of my personal estate as
applicable by law for payment thereof I bequeath to each of my Executors and
to every person both male and female that may be living in my regular service
at my decease a good suit of mourning including a Hat or Bonnet and a pair of
Boots And I hereby direct that all the Legacies bequeathed by this my Will
shall be given and paid to the several legatees free of legacy duty and paid
and distributed to such Legatees as speedily as possible after my decease. I
give and devise All that my dwellinghouse in Wood Street Kings Lynn aforesaid
purchased by me of Mr Parfrement unto my said Wife Jemima Fiddaman her heirs
and assigns for ever absolutely I give devise and bequeath unto my said
Trustees All that my Messuage or Dwellinghouse with the appurtenances thereof
belonging situate in Norfolk Street Kings Lynn aforesaid known as "Fiddaman's
Hotel" my Dwellinghouse with its appurtenances in High Street Kings Lynn
aforesaid known as "The Restaurant" now occupied by the said James Wenn and all
other my Real Estate not hereinbefore devised Also all my Stocks and Utensils
in trade Household Furniture not hereinbefore bequeathed Stores and effects
monies securities for money book and other debts and all other my personal
estate not hereinbefore specifically bequeathed unto my said Trustees Upon
trust as to my Real Estate to pay to my said Wife the rents of my estate in
Norfolk Street Kings Lynn and the profits arising from my business carried
thereon until the same is let pursuant to the directions herein contained for
the term of her natural life for her own absolute use and benefit and out of
the rents of my said estate in High Street Kings Lynn aforesaid to pay to the
said Elizabeth Hollingsworth the sum of Twenty five pounds per annum for her
life for her absolute use and benefit and to pay the residue of such rents to
my said Wife for her life and after the decease of my said Wife to pay the
whole of the rent of my said last mentioned estate to the said Elizabeth
Hollingsworth during her life for her use and benefit but in case my said Wife
shall survive the said Elizabeth Hollingsworth then I direct that the whole of
such rent shall be paid to her for her life And after the death of my said
Wife as to all my said Real Estate other than the estate in High Street Kings
Lynn aforesaid And after the death of the survivor of them my said Wife and
the said Elizabeth Hollingsworth as to the said last mentioned estate I direct
my said Trustees to sell the same either by public auction or private contract
and to stand possessed of the monies to arise from such sale after defraying
the expenses thereof Upon the trusts hereinafter declared concerning my
residuary personal estate And as the residue of my personal estate Upon trust
as soon as conveniently may be after my decease to call in collect and convert
the same into money and after payment thereout of my funeral and testamentary
expenses and debts and the legacies bequeathed by this my Will or any Codicil
thereto to invest the proceeds to arise from such sale collection and
conversion in the names of my said Trustees in or upon any Stocks funds or
securities authorized by law as investments for trust funds or the debentures
or debenture stocks or the guaranteed or preference stocks or shares of British
or Indian Railway Companies such a sum of money as shall be sufficient to
realize an Annuity of Fifty pounds per annum which I hereby give to my said
Wife and I direct my said Trustees to pay the same to her during her life for
her own absolute use and benefit by equal half yearly payments the first of
such payments to be made at the expiration of six calendar months from the time
of my decease And to invest the residue thereof in manner hereinbefore directed
and to stand possessed of the stocks funds or securities in or upon which the
same shall be invested together with the proceeds to arise from the sale of my
said Real Estate and also the trust fund set apart for the annuity of my said
Wife after her decease Upon trust for my Niece Susan the Wife of I.T. Dunning
the daughter of my deceased Sister Fanny Fiddaman and for all such of my
Nephews and Nieces the children of my said Brother and Sister Francis Fiddaman
and Ann Flegg as shall be living at my decease to be divided between all my
said Nephews and Nieces in equal shares and proportions And I direct that the
share of the said children shall be vested interests and paid and transferred
to them upon their respectively attaining the age of twenty one years but in
case any of my said Nephews and Nieces shall die in my lifetime leaving lawful
issue then I direct that such issue shall take his her or their parents share
in the said trust fund but so that such child or children respectively shall
take such share only as their parent would have taken if living And I direct
that it shall be lawful for my said Trustees to pay and apply the whole or such
part as they in their discretion shall think fit of the interest dividends and
annual produce arising from the shares of such of my said Nephews and Nieces
whose interest shall not have become vested in or towards their maintenance
education and advancement until they shall respectively attain the age of
twenty one years And I direct my said Trustees during the life of my said Wife
to let my said real estate either from year to year or for any term of years
not exceeding Ten years at such rents and under such covenants as they shall
think fit And further to offer the said James Wenn or to his Wife the said
Elizabeth Wenn if she should then be a Widow a renewal of the Lease of my
estate in High Street now in his tenure after the expiration of the existing
term for a further term of Ten years at the net annual rent of Sixty pounds And
I also direct my said Trustees before proceeding to a sale of my stock and
utensils in trade to offer the same to the person or persons who shall become
tenant of the premises now occupied by me to be taken and purchased by him or
them at a valuation by two indifferent persons or their umpire in the usual way
And I hereby revoke all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore
made and declare this to be my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I the
said James Fiddaman the Testator have hereunto set my hand on this fourth day
of January one thousand eight hundred and eighty four.

This is a Codicil to the last Will and Testament of me James Fiddaman of Kings
Lynn in the County of Norfolk Hotel Keeper which Will bears date the fourth day
of January one thousand eight hundred and eighty four Whereas by my said Will I
have given my Wife Jemima Fiddaman a Legacy of Five hundred pounds now I do
hereby give and bequeath to my said Wife the further sum of Five hundred pounds
which I declare is to be in addition to all the other provisions made for her
by my said Will I also hereby give to my friend Joseph Prince the sum of
Twenty pounds To Matilda Tuck daughter of Joseph Tuck late of Burnham the sum
of Ten pounds and ten shillings To Mrs Elizabeth Abel Widow of the late John
Abel of Norwich the sum of Ten Guineas To my friend James Derisley of Anmer
Steward my plain Gold Horse Shoe Pin and To Andrew Donaldson of Kings Lynn
Fishmonger my Scarf Ring set with Rubies And whereas by my said Will I have
directed my Trustees therein named to stand possessed of my residuary personal
estate and the monies to arise from the sale of my real Estate upon trust for
my Niece Susan Dunning and for all such of my Nephews and Nieces the children
of my Brother and Sister Francis Fiddaman and Ann Flegg as shall be living at
my decease And whereas I am desirous that my Godson Joseph Prince the younger
son of my friend Joseph Prince should take an equal share of my residuary
estate with my said Nephews and Nieces now I do hereby declare and direct that
my said trustees shall stand possessed of the residue of my personal estate and
the stocks funds and securities in or upon which the same shall be invested
together with the proceeds to arise from the sale of any real estate and also
the trust fund set apart for the annuity by my said Will bequeathed to my Wife
when the same shall respectively fall in Upon trust for my said Niece Susan
Dunning and for all such of my Nephews and Nieces the children of my said
Brother and sister Francis Fiddaman and Ann Flegg as shall be living at my
decease and for the said Joseph Prince the Younger to be divided between all my
said Nephews and Nieces and the said Joseph Prince the Younger in equal shares
and proportions to be vested interests and paid and transferred to them
respectively at the times and in the manner directed by my said Will and with
the like power of advancement of the Income to arise from the share of the said
Joseph Prince the Younger as is by my said Will provided for my said Nephews
and Nieces and in all other respects I confirm my said Will In witness whereof
I the said James Fiddaman have hereunto subscribed my name on the nineteenth
day of January one thousand eight hundred and eighty four
